Legislative Information
Part of our responsibilities as citizens and federal employees is to talk with and inform our legislators of our issues and views so that when they vote they understand how that vote influences our lives. They can also be particularly helpful with their votes—Please talk with them and inform them about the impacts those votes have on your daily lives here at the FDIC. The more you converse with your legislators, trust me, the easier it gets and they actually know you. Yes, you will find people who disagree with your position on issues, but working with them to educate them on the impacts of their decisions is very helpful in the long run to not only FDIC employees but also our fellow union members whether they are in IRS or CBP.
There are many ways you can contact your Congressmen and Congresswomen! You can call them, write them, and email them on any issue that you would like. I can tell you, from personal experience, sitting down with them when they are in your district or calling and establishing a relationship with their key people, will get you much further than just blindly calling them or blindly writing them only when you do not like what they have done or are about to do. Staying in contact with them even though there are no issues that you are particularly interested in that they are representing you on, is another key to maintaining that relationship when you may need to count on them! Also telling them you like some things they actually do will help you get a lot farther as well!
